Last weekend Springfit gymnasts were invited along to the annual tumbling competition hosted by our sister club Pointers in Warlingham. Gymnasts from 3 other clubs across Surrey also took part.
The discipline of tumbling is a real pleasure to watch for proud parents and coaches as well as fellow competitors as gymnasts link impressive move after impressive move along a strip of floor matting.
In the more basic grades moves such as forward rolls, cartwheels and jumps are put together whereas in the higher grades back flips, somersaults and handsprings are joined together to produce fantastic gymnastics displays.
Two panels of judges cast their eye over the scores of children taking part from various clubs across Surrey and Sussex and some of the grades were closely contested with only 0.1 points spliting 1st and 3rd place in the grade 4.
7 medals were won by Springfit gymnasts in what proved to be a highly competitive and hugely rewarding event. Our GOLD medal winners were Chloe Forward (Grade 1), Jazmine Hogan (Grade 2) and Jasmine Cooper (Grade 1). Silver Medals were awarded to Olivia Gleason-James (Grade 1) and Jamie Ives (Grade 2). Elise Alleyne (Grade 2) and Valentino Rodrigues (Grade 2) both took home Bronze medals. A Full List of the Results can be found here.
Head Coach Helen Hutson Pope had this to say : “Our lovely Springfit Gymnasts enjoyed a challenging and fun tumbling competition this weekend against some of our sister clubs. We had some worthy medallists amongst a strong line-up, so a big well done to them! And as always the real winners were our wonderful children who showed great determination and sportsmanship, supported by the parents and families. It was a wonderful show of enthusiasm and appreciation for all the competitors.”
The tumbling competition is always a highly anticipated phase of the year, but Springfit gymnasts now have their sights set on the next of the tri-annual events, with acrobatics routines to practice in class ready for the competition next month.
