With the Olympics on the horizon, members from across all our local Springfit Gym Clubs came together for our annual Beam and Trampette Gymnastics competitions at Oakwood Sports Centre in Horley last week, to much acclaim.
Almost 90 children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old competed in the gymnastics disciplines, vying for a place on the podium and the chance of a medal to take home and savour forever, just as their idols on the National stage will do in a few weeks’ time.
The event ran very smoothly and was warmly received by the spectating parents who commented on how happy their children were performing in front of a hugely supportive audience. Applause rang out throughout the day for the valiant efforts of the youngsters on some very difficult equipment, trying to keep their balance and perform a series of skills along the beam, including a spectacular dismount.
In the trampette event, four different jumps were performed, ranging from shaped jumps to twisting somersaults which captivated the crowd and gave the children heaps of confidence as they were cheered on.
Some of the scores were as close as 0.05 marks different from each other, showing how precise the gymnasts need to be to garner the accolades of the judging panel. In all, 38 medals were handed out to beaming victors, who proudly displayed them atop the podium in front of their friends and family.
As with all Springfit competitions, an extra special gold medal was handed out for effort in competition to those who had clearly tried their hardest, overcoming setbacks and disappointments to persevere in the event, and these were especially enjoyed by those in attendance.
Seven-year-old Willow said: “I really enjoyed the whole day and coming first in the trampette competition is my best achievement in my life so far!“ Organiser Adam Reynolds added “We are so proud of all those who took part and you can see how much it means to them. Our team are exceptional at delivering these rewarding events and we would like to thank the efforts of our wonderful team for helping the day run so successfully.”
The next competitions will be held in November when many more happy faces will be welcomed to our inter-Club event, showcasing their talent and providing lifelong memories. We very much look forward to seeing more happy children at these!
