Springfit gymnasts took part in the annual tumbling competition hosted by Pointers Club in Warlingham on Sunday 22nd April, and ended up bringing home 17 medals for all their excellent efforts.
In a variety of ability-based grades split further by age, the competitors took to the long tumble track to show off a string of moves performed one after the other, finishing by stopping steadily. Not an easy feat after some of the higher level flics and somersaults!
Ranging from forward rolls and half turn jumps to handsprings and back somersaults, the competition caters for all abilities, providing a supportive experience by all judges, coaches and spectators. It is clearly a popular format as over 100 children from local Clubs throughout Surrey and Sussex chose to take part and pit themselves against others enjoying the sport at a recreational level.
The higher level grades are always spectacular, as gymnasts fly through the air twisting and turning, almost seeming to defy gravity and somehow land solidly at the end with a big smile for the judges and proud parents watching. It’s a grand climax to the event, following some brave performances by younger children in earlier grades.
A special mention has to go to all six of the youngest gymnasts taking part in the grade 1 category. Every single of these super talented four and five-year-olds outscored nearly all the other 59 gymnasts taking part in grades 1 and 2!! Judges were blown away by the ability shown by these tiny tumblers. Usually entry level gymnasts are there for the experience and participate for confidence building but there was no timidness shown by any of the children as they took to the competition floor with big smiles and displayed fantastic control for all the moves in their tumbles.
Well done to everyone that took part. We look forward to seeing the continued improvements next year!
