Ten year old Jonathan Brown has taken part in several competitions with his local gymnastics and trampoline club Springfit, showing a healthy enthusiasm for the events and challenging himself to perform to the best of his ability. He recently did a project at school on his biggest passion and chose trampolining. He also did a school project on a person that had inspired him and chose his first trampoline coach Adam Reynolds who is now the club manager at Springfit.

He has trained at Oakwood Sports Centre in Horley for over three years and recently moved to the high performance Saturday morning trampoline classes at Oriel school in Maidenbower to further increase his ability levels. He performs front and back somersaults at the age of just 10 and shows great ambition and determination to achieve even greater moves on the apparatus.

In his first Springfit competition in February 2010 Jonathan achieved 3rd place performing at Grade 8 – a great start to his competitive experience. In the next event in June 2010 he missed out on a medal by 0.15 points and worked hard to earn 3rd place at Grade 9 in July 2011. Stepping up further, he won 2nd place at Grade 10 in June 2012 and his appetite for competition grew, so he worked harder to earn the top spot. Amongst the most difficult and closely matched group of gymnasts to date, Jonathan took the gold medal at grade 10 last Saturday, much to his surprise.

Jonathan’s Mum, Nicola, is extremely proud of his achievements and his current coach, Sharley, is looking forward to seeing him perform at the next level up in future competitions. The advanced grades contain twisting somersaults and moves with more than a full rotation, ensuring some spectacular moves are in line for Jonathan to learn in the coming months. He also gets to create his own ‘voluntary’ routine, putting in any moves that he has learnt, including skills with higher difficulty which earn more points for the complexity. This should help whet his appetite for his favourite sport in the world.

Pictured is Jonathan receiving his gold medal at last Saturday’s trampoline competition and a couple of him in action during his routine.

Following much anticipation, our brand new 15 metre air track has arrived at our main venue of Oakwood Sports Centre, Horley. The exciting new equipment has gone down a treat with members of all ages and abilities in over 14 classes, serving the needs of nearly 300 children and adults, as they seek to progress their gymnastic skills and further enjoy the sport.

All kinds of moves can be learnt on the air track, from backflips to somersaults and freestyle tricking skills. Coaches recognise the equipment as one of the most versatile and useful tools available to help develop gymnastics ability, and Springfit members seem to agree!

One member of our St Bede’s venue class has already managed a double backflip on an air track! We look forward to seeing many more moves from our wonderfully talented Elite class and adult class. The pre-school aged Funfit classes are also enjoying jumping around, trying new moves. It’s so much fun!

The results from our Members Satisfaction Survey for the first half of 2012 are in.

Congratulations to Head Gym coach Tanya Richardson, who wins with an excellent score of 9.3 out of ten.

The club’s average for the last six months was 8.86. We experienced an increase in responses, with 55 people replying and coaches being rated 118 times. The increased response is due to the expansion of the club with more classes running in various venues, and the increased rating is due to more coaches in classes and parents knowing their names.

We have aimed to increase feedback and have achieved this again with some comments pointing out that our coaches efforts have made a massive impact on some individual’s lives. All comments have been replied to personally, and fed back to coaches where necessary.
Huge congratulations are in order to all the coaching teams for their hard work and dedication.   We look forward to haveing even more feedback in another six months time.

We are very excited to be able to have the use of a brand new 15 metre air tumble track at our St Bede’s school venue in Redhill!
The apparatus is not only fun but also helps members grow in confidence to be able to perform moves that seem daunting on the gym floor. From ages 4 to the adults, everyone has been flipping themselves around on the new inflatable track and achieving some great results!
Many people have has commented on how beneficial it is to have the air track in classes, but more importantly everybody has said how much fun it is!

The inclusion of this equipment in classes has led to our coaches prioritizing it above all other equipment we are fundraising for at our Oakwood, Oriel, and Jubilee venues. I’m sure you’ll see them more widely available soon…
