We held class displays for the parents of each of our twenty ability-based gymnastics classes last week. The special sessions are arranged twice a year as a way to show off what children have learnt in the six months since the last displays.

Every class takes the opportunity to demonstrate their gymnastics moves on various apparatus used in the diverse class plans, to show their skills and highlight their strengths. To the proud parents in attendance, improvements in co-ordination and balance are clearly noticeable, and the increased strength and flexibility their children demonstrate is evidence enough that the sport of gymnastics is clearly one that will benefit them in all aspects of life.

The coaches pick out one member from every single class and present them with a gold medal for the child they consider has shown the most progress. The award is always greatly appreciated by the gymnast chosen, and rewards those who have shown a positive attitude to training as well as good attendance record, enthusiasm for learning, consistent effort and improvement in their skills amongst other factors.

The weekly recreational classes are attended by many energetic and eager children who are keen to perform to the best of their ability, and this makes the decision very hard for the instructors to single out any one particular winner. In many cases the club needs to present certificates and badges to runners-up too!

Many parents herald the classes as an important part of their children’s lives. Even those who are new to gymnastics quickly warm up to the friendly environment, and the smiles observed at Springfit parent sessions are further proof for parents and children alike that the experience is of huge benefit.

These displays also help children get used to performing for an audience, which in turn prepares them for Springfit’s fun local competitions run throughout the year. It provides parents with a great sense of pride at watching them enjoy their sport many are inspired to take up gymnastics themselves, joining one of Springfit’s many adult classes!

The Springfit team would like to shout a big ‘Well Done!’ to all twenty gymnasts listed below, who achieved this medal on their fantastic progress throughout the last six months. Pictured here are all the March progress medal winners at Springfit:
